Please sign the petition before May 12 - It is appalling in this day and age that someone who showed so much insensitivity and blatant ignorance (anti-semitic) should be rewarded in any manner. The City of Ottawa is proposing to name the new Library and Archives building after Charlotte Whitton. There will be a vote on May 12th, 2011 by full City Council on this matter. We would like to have as many names as possible of individuals who are opposed to this.
I would urge you to get everyone to sign that you feel would support our desire to prevent the naming of the new Library & Archives Building (or any other building for that matter) after Charlotte Whitton.

On Novebmer 5th, the Women's Campaign of the federation held a successfull Choices event. The keynote speaker for Choices, Brigitte Gabriel, was viewed in very different ways by those who participated. Mr. Bellman stated "I was not in attendance at the event and do not have the benefit of a transcript or video of her speach..... I have also hear he say things which, in my opinion, are unacceptable gross generalization of Arabs and Muslims... In no way was it it our intention to present offensive and dangerous generalizations and in no way is that reflective of our core values. The Federation looks forward to using the controversy around the Choices event as a learning experience, ... We also intend to develop a clearer policy on how speakers are chosen for future community events"

A need to connect resulted in the formation of Jewish Ottawa South, which mainly works online, bringing families together through their Web site and e-mail lists. Currently, there are 400 people on their mailing list, with approximately 150 of those from the Riverside South area.
