Riverside South is currently home to over 3,500 households. Riverside South started building in 1996. It is projected to be the fastest growing community in the City of Ottawa through 2011 with an anticipated 52.9% annual growth rate. For comparison, Kanata/Stittsville is expected to have a rate of 10.2% and Barrhaven is expected to have a rate of 13.2%. The boundaries that will eventually form the edges of Riverside South are Lietrim Road to the north, the Rideau River to the west, a line half-way between Earl Armstrong and Rideau Road to the south and Bowesville Road to the east. Public Transportation OCTranspo has two bus routes servicing Riverside South. Route 145 (map) (schedule from Riverside South) (schedule to Riverside South) operates throughout the day and requires a standard fare. This route starts and ends at the Greenboro Transitway/O-Train station, with connections to bus service to downtown and the O-Train. Route 45 (map) (schedule from Riverside South) (schedule to Riverside South) operates express service to and from Riverside South to downtown Ottawa during peak hours. It requires a premium fare. Shopping Ottawa Judaica Riverside South's first commercial plaza opened in 2004 and 2005. The plaza at the corner of Earl Armstrong and River Roads contains: The Your Independent Grocer store opened its doors on March 17, 2005 and stands alone as its own building. It is a substantial grocery store modeled after newer locations like the one in Barrhaven at Greenbank and Strandherd. Although it is smaller than most of the newer stores it provides the same number of services including a drug store, natural foods, meals to go, flowers, general merchandise such as clothes and electronics, and even a Good Life fitness centre for moms and tots. The Scotiabank, also in its own standalone building, opened their doors in December 2004. The bank has been actively engaged in the community, and was very happy to open this branch, its first in the east/south end of Ottawa in several years. The South Keys shopping area is located approximately 15 minutes North-East of Riverside South. It features a number of "Big Box" store, including Loblaws, Future Shop, Chapters, Wal Mart, Home Depot and Roots. There are a number of restaurants and a movie theatre.
